Kathy Forzley – Inspired by Nature: A Feltmaker’s Journey

We started our meeting with a wonderful potluck.

We missed seeing Jan Koster and Patsy Williamson. This Friday was the day after a big storm, many of us had no power and some damage to trees but the church was open so we were able to meet.  We were not all so lucky. This is a note from Jan: "Yes, we were hit pretty hard as was Patsy; she also lives on Post in Waukazoo.  We both had wires down which weren’t removed until late afternoon.  She mentioned clearing debris which is what we spent yesterday doing also.  We were very lucky as we had no real damage.  Next door two trees fell into the garage with the upper part of the trees landing in our yard.
No power yet, but we watched the crews last night put in new poles.  The tree people are coming to assess  both ours and the neighbors removal of the trees."
Thanks for your concern, it was pretty catastrophic! Jan

Jennifer made a yummy cake to celebrate our 46th Year

Nancy made these sample Seeds that we were asked to make.  A handout was given to us and are due Oct. 20.  This is for the Saugatuck Center for the Arts. For the pattern and more information, please visit:    https://kaylapowers.studio/sowingseeds

We didn't have time for show and tell, but I just loved Priscilla's
Eco printed wool jersey top.

I think we were all quite inspired by Kathy's Journey

Kathy shared many of her wet-felted items and also a wonderful power point of her sources of inspiration. She has been wet-felting for about 13 years, she started her journey with art quilting.  A lot of  her inspiration comes from nature.  After she wet felts a piece she adds embroidery, stitching, beads and other interesting techniques.  She contributes a lot of her inspiration to Jan Waller.

Sarafina also has pre felt pieces.  And lots of wool.

Closeups of her work:

This she named "Out of the Ashes" as she worked on it
during Covid.

These represent moss, tree bark and foilage.

Note the stitching around each cut out and inbetween.

Kathy will teach this painting with wool on Sept. 12th
at the Holland Arts Council.
