For immediate release
Byron Center, Michigan – The Lakeshore Fiber Arts Guild’s next meeting will be on Wed., Oct. 5, featuring Jan Koster and Diane Mulder on “Designing Your Own Costumes,” at the Holland Area Arts Council, 150 East 8th St., Holland, MI 49423, starting promptly at 6:30pm with social time beginning at 6pm. Non-members are asked to pay $5 toward the speaker’s fee.
Longtime friends Diane Mulder and Jan Koster, both Holland residents, have shared a passion for creating artful costumes, clothing and decorative items for their homes. In addition to creating many one-of-a-kind costumes, they both worked in costuming for the Holland Community Theatre. Diane will present her expertise in costume research, utilized in 1986 for her design of the Men’s Staphorst Dutch Dance Costume. Jan will use her alteration and pattern making experience to demonstrate how to change basic patterns to create different costume effects.
Diane Mulder worked for Kohl’s Department Stores where her job as a staging specialist was setting up the individual store displays for their new stores. Her current job at Dutch Village involves many of the same creative skills in the area of displays and buying for their store. In addition, Diane has also created many commissioned costumes over the years.
After receiving an Elementary Teaching Degree, Jan Koster returned to Michigan State’s Clothing and Textile degree program to pursue her love of textiles, pattern making and clothing design. Jan opened a shop, The Tiny Tailor, which centered on alterations and custom design clothing. She loves the creative process of getting an idea, deciding how to create it and designing patterns or methods to make those ideas into clothing, costumes or home decorating items.
The Lakeshore Fiber Arts Guild invites anyone interested in the textile fiber arts to their monthly program meetings held the first Wednesday of each month at the Holland Area Arts Council.
