Visit to The Warm Friend by Resthaven in Holland

Four of us visited the Senior Home in Downtown Holland in May to have a mini show and tell.  Jennifer started out by explaining what our guild is about.  Unfortunately only a few people showed up but they were quite enthusiastic and it was fun to talk to them.

Jennifer brought a few of her art dolls and talked about them.

Coleen brought several of her handwoven rugs to talk about.  The seniors loved looking at them up close and touching them.

Wendy wore her quilted coat and crocheted scarf and brought her cat wallhanging.

Kay brought several vintage items that she had repurposed to share.  Wonderful hankies.

Kathy Forzley – Inspired by Nature: Workshop

This is pretty much the step by step process of making a wet felted piece.  I did not put the video of the 1000 times we had to roll. She also gave us a wonderful handout.

Kathy was an excellent teacher,  very organized, we all got our own little kit of wools and extras, and she let us use many of her other items to aid in our wet felting. And the journey begins.

Splitting the wool roving into 4 sections.

Layout your wool by shingling or drafting it.

Judy brought her husband to roll for her.  She is injured and she hates
that part anyway.

Add contrast pieces, wet and roll to firm up

Take off excess moisture with swedish dish cloths.

Add netting and wet out.

Remove the netting carefully and tidy up your edges by
folding over to the back and wetting.

Roll in all 4 directions 50 times each roll.  It is good to have
a counter while you are talking, thanks Lin.

Cut into 4 equal pieces.

Add prefelt strips, silk, thread, other embellishments.

Wet all and cover with bubble wrap.

Rub with a piece of bubble wrap in a circular motion
for 6 to 8 minutes.

Roll up and then roll 100 times from all 4 directions, both sides.

Starting the fulling process.

They should be about 6" each, starting from about 18" by 18".  About 25%
shrinkage.

And a glimpse of our masterpieces before the final fulling technique.

A few closeups of Kathy's work.

Kathy sews the piece to a foam board before mounting the foam board.
