“Soy Wax Batik” on Wed., Oct. 1, 2015

The Lakeshore Fiber Arts Guild presents “Soy Wax Batik” on
Wed., Oct. 1, with Priscilla Lynch and Jennifer Gould at the Holland Area Arts Council, 150 East 8th St., Holland, MI 49423, starting at 6:30pm.  The door opens at 6pm.  Nonmembers are asked to pay $5 toward speaker’s fees.

NOTE:  Please bring small pieces (no larger than 10" x 10") of white or light colored smooth fabric (may have printing on it, and does not necessarily have to be cotton or natural fabric).  Nonmembers are asked to pay an additional $3 for demo materials (wax, paint, etc.).

Batik is an ancient technique in which hot wax is stamped onto fabric to create a patterned resist so that the fabric below the wax remains uncolored when dye/paint is put on the unwaxed areas of the fabric.  Soy wax was developed as an environmentally friendly alternative and easier to use than traditional batik wax.  Guild members Priscilla Lynch and Jennifer Gould will share their experiments with this technique, demonstrate and then participants will be able to try waxing and painting a small piece of fabric.

The Lakeshore Fiber Arts Guild invites anyone interested in the textile fiber arts to their monthly program meetings held the first Wednesday of each month at the Holland Area Arts Council.
