Lin : Origami Christmas Ornament/Book Project

Lin taught us to make a simple, colorful origami ornament that unfolds into a lovely star to hang on our Christmas tree, decorate a window or attach to a package, and it folds up into a book!  Such a fun project, anxious to teach my grand daughters.

A tiny book that you can write on becomes a star when it is open.

Lin gives us a tip with a glue stick, use an old book to glue on and then turn the page
so as not get glue on the project.

Little dots of glue to glue 5 folded papers together.

Ribbon glued on outside pieces about a pencil width in between.

Had to use mine as I didn't manage to take pictures of the finished stars.

Show and Tell

Priscilla continues to make even more interesting weavings.
Also note her knitted vest.

Woven transparency, she works on one section at a time.

"Heaven:  Revelation 4"

Jane made this very special art piece using dyed paper, interfacing and embroidery.

Judy's newest project is felting lamp shades to sell.

Suzanne this might be one of my favorites of your felting animals.

Coleen made another beautiful rug, this one has small splits
woven in.

Coleen weaves on a vertical loom, the tension is maintained by weights tied to the warp ends.  It is placed on an angle, which makes it possible to use thread and a stick to make harnesses to create different sheds.  So far I have only used tabby weave.

The tapestry below began just with playing at making a bird, and then thinking about where that bird would perch.  Channeling the Hard Day’s Night Beatles album cover, I think.  My partner, David, had a life sized photo copy of his face used for a sculpture project which I worked from.

Marie continues to put unusual media together to make
a wonderful piece of art.

Beautiful scarf and mittens by Susan.

Julie made a vase type art form with 3 sides.

Julie also brought her wonderful Eagle, that she has entered in
several shows.

Nancy felted a sweater to make this bag and wet felted the mittens below.

Jennifer revised an older technique and made several
Christmas cards to sell.

Linda tried a new technique to fuse fabric for these city scapes.
She made these for gifts for Christmas.

Wendy paper pieced and quilted this wall hanging.
This is a Laura Heine pattern.

“Judy Rosbury: Playing with Prefelts”

Judy signed up for Kathy Forzley’s “Surface Design & Dimension Using Prefelts” at the June 2024 Summer Workshops and received an MLH scholarship to take it.  Judy did a wonderful presentation of what she did in the workshop showing several pieces that she made there as well as many needle-felted works she’s done since then.

The following similar projects were made in the same class by either Nancy or Lin

Judy also had some amazing Show and Tell items.

Judy bought the pottery piece and then felted mushrooms to fit.

This is one of Priscilla's Transparent Tapestries.  Note the wonderful shirt she is wearing
from her dyed-stamped fabric.

Priscilla was also experimenting with different knitting techniques.

Marie is always experiementing with different fibers.

Kim wove this great 2 sided piece and also the pillows.

Susan knit this sweater from yarn from Iceland.

She also wove all these scarves out of warp she dyed.

Lin made this bag with a painting technique and the sun.

Julie wool felted and then quilted this piece.

Julie had a little help from her dog on this one.
And Wendy made a felted fungi in an online class taught
by Sophie Wheatley.

Silent Auction Items Below

Judy brought in several jackets and vests made by Debra Beadles Youngs which many of us had fun trying on and purchasing for really great prices.
