Peruvian Textiles

The Lakeshore Fiber Arts Guild’s first program meeting of the new year is on Wed., Sept. 5, featuring three Grand Rapids women presenting “Peruvian Textiles” at the Holland Area Arts Council, 150 East 8th St., Holland, MI 49423, starting promptly at 6:30pm with social time beginning at 6pm.  Guests are asked to pay $10 toward the speaker’s fee.

Margaret Jager, ChiChi VanDyke and Jeanne Hoin traveled to Peru intent on experiencing the traditional weaving, spinning, and dyeing of the native Peruvian people. They worked with artisans in native villages collecting dyestuffs, dyeing fiber, spinning, and weaving and then attended a conference, Tinkuy 2017, dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of the native textile arts. Their presentation will include an opportunity to see and handle the textiles of backstrap loom weaving, Pebeo embroidery, hand-dyed wool, and more.

Members of the Woodland Weaving and Spinning Guild in Grand Rapids, each woman has a fascination with textiles and their own particular weaving technique on which they regularly work.

The Lakeshore Fiber Arts Guild invites anyone interested in the textile fiber arts to their monthly program meetings held the first Wednesday of each month at the Holland Area Arts Council.  For more information, visit the guild’s blog at http://lakeshorefiberartsguild.blogspot.com or contact at jgould1526@gmail.com or 616-878-1526.
