Priscilla Lynch's presentation on "Free Motion Machine Embroidery: Painting with Thread."

Priscilla Lynch's presentation on "Free Motion Machine Embroidery:  Painting with Thread." will be our next speaker

Byron Center, Michigan – The Lakeshore Fiber Arts Guild’s first program meeting of the year is on Wed., September 6, featuring Priscilla Lynch on “Free Motion Machine Embroidery: Painting with Thread, at the Holland Area Arts Council, 150 East 8th St., Holland, MI 49423, starting promptly at 6:30pm with social time beginning at 6pm.  Guests are asked to pay $10 toward the speaker’s fee.

Saugatuck resident Priscilla Lynch will present a talk about using free motion machine embroidery to create images on fabric.  Lynch explains, “You don’t need a fancy and expensive sewing machine to do machine embroidery.  By dropping the feed dogs (those jagged little bars sitting under your needle that propel fabric through the machine) on virtually any sewing machine, you can turn your needle and thread into a freely moving pencil or paint brush allowing you complete control in creating your imagery.”  Her talk will focus on work that she has done with free motion embroidery, and techniques and tips that she has learned along the way. In addition to her PowerPoint presentation, she will have many samples and finished pieces on hand.

Lynch has been working with fiber since a child, starting with sewing and knitting and then learning to weave.  For over 35 years she produced handwoven clothing that she sold in several regional galleries.  Later, she transitioned into tapestry weaving and was the Educational Chair for the American Tapestry Alliance.  Her current work is primarily in felting, art quilting and free motion machine embroidery.  Throughout her fiber career, she has taught and lectured in many venues and shown in juried and invitational shows locally and nationally.  Currently her work can be seen at Good Goods in Saugatuck, MI and at the MI Arts Show at the Holland Area Arts Council (8/25/17 -11/4/17).

The Lakeshore Fiber Arts Guild invites anyone interested in the textile fiber arts to their monthly program meetings held the first Wednesday of each month at the Holland Area Arts Council.  For more information, visit the guild’s blog at http://lakeshorefiberartsguild.blogspot.com or contact jgould1526@gmail.com or 616-878-1526.
