The Lakeshore Fiber Arts Guild presents its first program of the 2014-2015 year on Wed., Sept. 3, with “Twill: The Basics and Beyond” by Martha Town at the Holland Area Arts Council, 150 East 8th St., Holland, MI 49423, starting at 6:30pm. The door opens at 6pm. Nonmembers and guests are asked to donate $5 toward the speaker’s fees.
A resident of Pittsford, Michigan, near Jackson, Martha Town has been handweaving using twill as a basic weave structure for 30 years. With many examples of her work on hand and a PowerPoint presentation as illustration, Martha wants attendees to understand basic twill structures and explore the endless possibilities of twill as a “weaving language.” Martha is a past president of the Michigan League of Handweavers, which meets each summer at Hope College, and she is a member of her local Jackson Handweavers Guild, Cross Borders Guild, and Complex Weavers.
The Lakeshore Fiber Arts Guild invites anyone interested in the textile fiber arts to their monthly program meetings held the first Wednesday of each month at the Holland Area Arts Council.
